Kennedy, Elder earn Big 12 weekly honors

Longhorns Wyoming 31-10

AUSTIN — Texas Longhorns’ Eric Kennedy and right-handed pitcher Bryce Elder earned Big 12 weekly awards, the conference announced Monday.

Kennedy was named the Big 12’s Player of the Week, while Elder earned the Big 12’s Pitcher of the Week award.

Kennedy batted .474/.583/.579 in five games against the Arkansas Razorbacks and TCU Horned Frogs last week. The outfielder collected two four-hit games. His best effort was against the Horned Frogs as he went 4-of-5 at Lupton Field in Fort Worth Saturday along with a triple, three RBI, and three runs scored. On Sunday, Kennedy went 4-of-5 again.

Against TCU, Elder allowed one run on five hits through eight innings, matching his career-high for innings pitched. The sophomore fanned seven batters and influenced two double plays in the game.

This is the second set of weekly honors for Kennedy and Elder in 2019 as the former earned newcomer of the week after Texas’ sweep of LSU and the latter picked up pitcher of the week after his opening day start.

The Longhorns take on Incarnate Word in San Antonio Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Nelson Wolff Stadium, home of the Triple-A San Antonio Missions.
