ATLANTA, Texas – Atlanta Rabbits graduate, Jake Thompson signed a letter of intent today to play catcher at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas in front of his friends, family and Atlanta coaching staff at the Atlanta IDS Administration Building.
Thompson said earning a scholarship to play college baseball has always been his goal and thanked his parents, grandparents, coaching staff and teachers for their support and encouragement throughout his Little League, Middle School and High School years. He’s looking forward to continuing his baseball career playing for the ETBU Tigers.
Rabbits Baseball Coach David Hooten credited Thompson’s pitching skills and background as an advantage for playing catcher and knowing how to read and work with pitchers.
East Texas Baptist University offers student-athletes, students and sports fans a wide variety of intercollegiate athletics programs from which to choose. The ETBU Athletic Department seeks to provide quality Christian education and competition for all its student-athletes.
ETBU is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), competing at the Division III level. Division III institutions do not offer athletic scholarships in any sports programs. Student-athletes may receive financial aid through academic scholarships, grants, loans, etc., however. ETBU has been a member of Division III since 1998, joining the ranks from previous status as a member of the NAIA and NCAA Division II.
