Both Queen City and Mount Vernon went scoreless until the top of the 3rd as QC 3B Erica Lavoie broke the monotony with a home run to push the Queen City lead to 1-0.
Mount Vernon returned the favor in the bottom of 3rd as inning lead off batter MV DP Pacey Ford reached base with a single to left field and was advanced to second on a 5-3 SAC Bunt by MV CF Natalie Norwood. MV SS Summer Rogers then proceeded to double to center field and scored Ford from second to knot the score even at 1-1.
The rest of the game belonged to the Lady ‘Dawgs as QC 2B Brenna turbeville led off the top of the 6th with her second single of the night . Brenna stole 2B and advanced to third when QC CF Serenity Oden layed down a SAC Bunt. MV P Alexa Taylor fielded the ball and briefly checked third base for Turbeville’s advance, and that moment came back to bite the Lady Tigers as Serenity outran the throw to first. QC P Trinity Oden then made Mount Vernon pay as she hammered a shot to deep left field. MV LF Cameron Pope gave chase but the ball bounced off the top of the outfield wall and provided Trinity with her second home run in the playoffs making the final score QC 4 and MV 1.
Queen City absolutely gritted their teeth and performed when it mattered as the game plan was noticeable and the Lady ‘Dawgs recorded 0 errors for the game.. Defensive adjustments assisted QC P Trinity Oden to holding the high powered Lady Tigers to just the 1 run on 4 hits while she also walked 1 and struck out 5. The adjustments virtually eliminated Mount Vernon’s bunt game that provided much success in game 1.
Mount Vernon pitching ace Alexa Taylor was relieved in the seventh inning after giving up 4 runs on 4 hits, while she walked 2 and struck out 4. MV P KK Scally allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 in 1 inning of relief.
