Hit-and-run Kills 21-year-old Woman Crossing Road in East Columbus

Police are looking into a hit-and-run death in east Columbus early Thursday morning.

Officers were summoned to the 700 block of Stelzer Road at approximately 4:32 a.m.

Police say 21-year-old Nakia Lawrence was crossing the street when she was hit by an unknown car.

Medics pronounced Lawrence deceased on the spot at 4:44 a.m. “A buddy of mine told me that at 3 or 4 a.m. today, someone was hit while crossing the street on their way to the bus stop. “There have been a lot of accidents at this small entrance,” said homeowner Devin Jackson Bey.

He has lived in the neighborhood his entire life.

We spoke with locals in the hamlet, who informed us that crossing the road is perilous.

“Too many people have been hit and hurt from behind, and I believe something should be done about it,” said local Devin Jackson Bey.

The Accident Inquiry Unit has begun an inquiry. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call Columbus Police or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
