We continue to see a strong cold front move into northern Florida, bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rain with thunderclaps is moving swiftly from west to east, soaking areas ranging from Cedar Key, FL to Jacksonville.
The actual story is that unusually cold air is predicted to move in overnight throughout much of the Southeast, Gulf Coast, and North Florida.
Temperatures in the low to mid-30s have dropped low enough that the National Weather Service has issued frost advisories and freeze warnings for the majority of the Florida panhandle and north Florida overnight tonight and tomorrow morning.
Frost and freeze warnings/watches are in effect throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and the southeast tip of North Carolina. Temperatures in these places are likely to drop below freezing overnight and tomorrow morning.
Overall, a very cold trend is developing over the next few weeks, with reinforcements of very cold, arctic air expected through mid-December. During this time, snow may become more likely in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
