Head-on Collision in Butler County: 16-year-old Dies, 13-year-old Sister Hospitalized

The coroner’s office has identified the 16-year-old who died in a head-on crash in Butler County on Thursday. Around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, two automobiles crashed on West Elkton Road, which is about a 20-minute drive north of Hamilton.

“Not sure exactly what occurred at this point as far as who would be at fault, but ended up having a head-on collision,” Sgt. Steven Poff commented.

Poff heads the Butler County Sheriff’s Office’s accident reconstruction section.

He stated that a 2005 Pontiac driven by a 16-year-old boy was traveling north on West Elkton Road when it crossed the center line and collided with a Chevy Suburban driven by a 60-year-old man.

The adolescent motorist was pronounced deceased on the spot by medics. His 13-year-old sister accompanied him in the Pontiac. She was airlifted to Dayton Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The man in the Suburban sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.

On Friday, the coroner named the 16-year-old as Wyatt Sidney Duckworth.

According to the superintendent of Preble Shawnee Local Schools, the 16-year-old was in the district’s 11th grade. The teen’s sister, the 13-year-old passenger, is an eighth-grade student in the district.

“We’re a little community. Todd Bowling, superintendent of Shawnee Preble Local Schools, stated, “Everybody knows everybody.”
