GILMER — The Gilmer Buckeyes produced 305 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns to help defeat the Atlanta Rabbits 47-26 Friday night at Jeff Traylor Stadium.
Gilmer had 17 first downs compared to the Rabbits’ 11, and the Buckeyes also won the turnover battle 2-0 with both of those Atlanta giveaways being fumbles. The Buckeyes were 3-of-9 on third downs with a 2-for-4 success rate on fourth down. The Rabbs were 1-of-9 on third down with a 2-of-4 rate on fourth down.
Atlanta quarterback Kade Wood completed four passes on 14 attempts for 25 yards and a touchdown. Wood also had five attempts for two yards. The Rabbs’ leading rusher was Caleb Hamilton with 15 carries for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Alijuah Drayton ran back an 80-yard kickoff for a touchdown in the third quarter.
Connor Samples led Atlanta with 10 tackles, including three tackles for loss. Logan Shelton had eight tackles with one tackle for loss. Daniel Hernandez had four tackles with a pass breakup.
In addition to the 305 rushing yards, the Buckeyes had 199 yards through the air. Atlanta had fewer penalties with six for 42 yards compared to the Buckeyes committing 10 for 85.
Atlanta hosts Gladewater on Sept. 6 while the Buckeyes go on the road to face Van.
