Freshman Kannon Dempsey pitches shutout for Longhorns against Hawkins

McLeod is a game up on Hawkins after freshman Kannon Dempsey blanks Hawks Thursday night in Region III-2A quarterfinal series opener, 3-0.


BULLARD, Texas – Freshman Kannon Dempsey pitched McLeod past Hawkins Thursday night at Brook Hill School in their Region III-2A quarterfinal series opener, 3-0.

Dempsey went seven innings, allowing three hits. He walked three and struck out three as the Longhorns improve to 16-5.


Dempsey only one to shutout Hawkins

Zach Corde was the losing pitcher for the Hawks (23-4). Corde scattered six hits, walked two and struck out six. Dempsey’s shutout marked the first time Hawkins has failed to score in a game this season.

The series continues Saturday at 4 p.m. If a third game is needed it will follow 30 minutes after the second game.
