It was the coldest day since February 17, with a high of 52 degrees in the afternoon. The cold has become even more intense since Wednesday when it reached a record-breaking 83 degrees, a 31-degree difference in just 24 hours.
The frigid air sets in North Texas overnight. The cloud cover will gradually decrease, allowing heat from the surface to flow outward into the atmosphere. This will lead to frigid temperatures on Friday morning. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning, alerting people to the dangers of morning temperatures as low as 28 degrees.
In fact, we’ve declared a First Alert Weather Day for Friday morning to highlight the risks of the cold weather. Bring any vulnerable plants and pets indoors.
In addition to the Friday morning freeze, winds will be brisk. The wind chill factor will make it considerably chilly outside. For example, DFW is expected to be 35 degrees, but with the northerly wind, the windchill will make it feel more like 31 throughout the morning.
Friday afternoon will be cool, but the sun will return for a nice start to the weekend. Another dry cold front will move through on Saturday, bringing extra freezing risks to Sunday and Monday mornings. However, the peak heat will remain around normal during the afternoons.
Conditions remain dry until moisture enters the forecast, which will offer a chance of showers Tuesday through Thursday. Stay tuned for the most recent updates.
