Strong thunderstorms deposited heavy rain on northern counties in the last 24 hours, causing Flood Watches. These watches will continue in effect on Monday owing to more heavy rain, which may cause flooding.
The Flood Watch has been extended for sections of North Texas until 3 p.m. Monday. On Sunday, several inches of rain fell in Grayson, Cooke, Montague, Wise, Jack, and Young counties. Another 2 to 3 inches of rain is anticipated by Monday afternoon.
A further 1-2 inches is possible south of I-20, and up to 3.5 inches north.
Monday’s severe threat grows, with an increased risk of several severe storms in northeastern counties and a modest risk across North Texas as a whole.
On Monday, a front will clash with a large amount of instability and moisture, creating a dynamic hazard of tornadoes, hail, and severe winds.
The western counties are forecast to see the greatest storms in the morning, followed by the I-35 corridor and DFW in the afternoon, then the eastern counties in the late afternoon and evening.
The good news is that the front will bring much-needed rain, cooler temperatures, and a bright afternoon right before Election Day.
The quiet weather won’t last long; another front is on its way early Thursday morning, bringing back an increase in precipitation and an active pattern.
