On Tuesday, December 10, at around 4:30 p.m., the incident took place near the intersection of Garners Ferry and Cate roads, which is located immediately east of McCords Ferry Road/US-601.
Master Trooper William Bennett of the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) provided the following description of how the incident took place: a driver of a 2006 Acura RS6 was driving west on Garners Ferry when he attempted to avoid a 2020 Lincoln Navigator that was turning north off of Garners Ferry onto Cate Road.
The Acura ended up crossing the median and colliding head-on with a 2021 Toyota Tundra that was heading east on Garners Ferry. This occurred as a direct consequence of the accident.
Both the driver of the Tundra and the driver of the Acura were taken to the Prisma Health Richland hospital for treatment of their injuries. The driver of the Acura ultimately succumbed to the injuries he incurred in the collision and passed away.
