QUEEN CITY, Texas – It seems everything is new in Queen City this football season. That’s the way coach Eric Droddy is approaching 2019.
Droddy is not worried about how many lettermen are back, or the number of starters returning. Last year’s 0-10 record means nothing to him and his new coaching staff.
“We were here five years ago; I came back to Queen City because it’s such a great community,” said Droddy. “The young men and women here are very respectful. I came back from New Waverly, because these kids can compete.”
The Bulldogs’ main goal is to stay healthy. It looks like they’ll have at least six players going both ways.
Queen City had 55 players show up this summer, which is reason enough for the Bulldogs’ coaching staff to be optimistic.
Playoffs a goal claims Droddy
“We need to be 3-3 going into our final district game,” said Droddy. “If we do that we’ll be fighting for a playoff spot. I was very pleased with portions of our first scrimmage.”
District 11-3A Division II will be a tough challenge. Daingerfield is ranked among the top 10 in the state. Elysian Fields, Waskom, Paul Pewitt and DeKalb are the favorites, and one of those schools will be packing its gear up in early November.
All-District quarterback Dillon Scott is back for the Bulldogs. Droddy is hoping his talented signal-caller’s ability will open up the running game. Holdovers Terunte Neal and Connor Alexander figure to be busy runners.

If not running the football, Alexander is more than capable of getting up front and blocking for someone else. Christian Fitzgerald and Noah Perkins should provide the leadership in the offensive line. The Bulldogs have size up front
“Nobody knows if our record will show how much we improve this season,” said Droddy. “Everyone has bought in. Like I said before, the goal is to stay healthy, work hard, and play hard.”
