Ehlinger like Tim Tebow

If there is one comparison that comes to mind for LSU Tigers coach Ed Orgeron when it comes to Texas Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger, it’s a throwback to the late 2000s.

Orgeron told reporters Tuesday that Ehlinger reminds him of former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow.

“He reminds me a little bit of Tebow,” Orgeron said. “I was at another school when we had to play Tebow. I’m not saying he’s as good as Tebow, I’m not saying he’s not. Reminds me of that type of player, but he’s a better thrower.”

Orgeron was the coach at Ole Miss from 2005-07, and he got to see Tebow when the Gators visited Oxford, delivering the Rebels a 30-24 loss. Tebow completed 20 passes on 34 attempts for 261 yards and two touchdowns.

Last week against Louisiana Tech, Ehlinger went 28-of-38 for 276 yards and four touchdowns, carrying just eight times for 34 rushing yards.

Like Tebow, Ehlinger can beat teams with his legs.

“This guy can beat you with his feet, can throw the football,” said Orgeron. “But he’s very dangerous, especially in the red zone. They’re going to give him the ball. Just like they did with Tebow, run him on the zone read. He’s a little bit different than our offense in that situation.

LSU faces Texas Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.
