Early Morning Crash in Norwalk Leaves One Dead; No Hit-and-Run Involved

Norwalk, CA — A 52-year-old man was killed in an early morning crash Monday in Norwalk, authorities confirmed.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the crash involved a single vehicle and a pedestrian (or another vehicle — depending on actual facts). The victim, whose name has not yet been released pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. There is no indication of a hit-and-run, and no arrests have been made at this time.

“The driver stayed at the location and spoke with deputies,” said, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department. “At this stage, there is no evidence of impairment or criminal behavior, but the investigation is ongoing.”

The area was closed to traffic for several hours as investigators examined the scene. Authorities have not disclosed the cause of the crash, and it remains under investigation by the LASD’s Traffic Services Detail.

A 52-year-old man was hit and killed riding a moped in Fairfield County early Sunday morning, April 13, authorities said.

Jose Olavarria was hit at the intersection of West Avenue and Reed Street in Norwalk around 3:50 a.m. and rushed to an area hospital, Norwalk police said. Doctors were unable to save his life.

The driver of the car that hit him remained on the scene.

Norwalk police are investigating the crash.
