Doxakis earns SEC Pitcher of the Week honors

Miami 48-33 win A&M

COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M’s John Doxakis was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

The junior hurler led all SEC players in strikeouts opening weekend with a career-high tying 12 in Friday’s 4-0 win over the Fordham Rams. The lefty allowed one hit and no runners reached scoring position during his 7.0 innings on the mound. The Rams were held to an .042 on-base percentage and retired the last 12 batters he faced.

The 4-0 win was also the third straight double-digit strikeout game for the Preseason All-SEC second teamer. In 2018, he fanned 10 in an SEC Tournament win over the Auburn Tigers along with a 12-strikeout effort over the Indiana Hoosiers in the 2018 NCAA Austin Regional.

Doxakis becomes the seventh Aggie to earn SEC Pitcher of the Week honors and the first since Mitchell Kilkenny earned the honor the first week of April 2018.

Texas A&M will be back in action Tuesday as they face Stephen F. Austin.
