RICHARDSON – At least three people were killed in a big crash on US 75 in Richardson, which closed the roadway for many hours Friday morning.
Richardson police said that the crash occurred at 11:55 p.m. on Thursday. As a result, all southbound lanes of US 75, also known as the Central Expressway, were closed near the President George Bush Turnpike during morning rush hour. The highway reopened shortly before 9 a.m.
Richardson police said they initially responded to a call about a stalled Cadillac SUV in the southbound HOV lane. Before police arrived, the driver of a Lexus SUV collided with the back of the Cadillac. The Lexus was then hit from behind by a Dodge vehicle, according to authorities.
According to authorities, the driver and six passengers in the Cadillac were outside the vehicle when the two crashes occurred.
The driver and four other Cadillac occupants were brought to the hospital with injuries. Alyia Khalid, 19, died on the scene. Another passenger was uninjured.
The driver of the Lexus, 27-year-old Haley Taylor, and her 6-year-old daughter were rushed to the hospital and perished.
The driver and passenger in the Dodge were brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
When the Dodge collided with the Lexus, a Nissan sedan was hit twice—once by the Dodge and once by an 18-wheeler traveling through the crash area, according to authorities. The drivers of the Nissan and 18-wheeler were not hurt.
According to police, debris from the crash damaged two other automobiles.
