Daingerfield dominates in 48-12 win at Queen City

Daingerfield win at Queen City

Everyone knew that Daingerfield would be a David versus Goliath match up Friday night at Smith Wall Stadium. As the QC community celebrated our veterans and current service members for Military Appreciation night, the Tigers were just faster, stronger, and outnumbered the Bulldogs to take a 48 – 12 victory.

Daingerfield would have turnover and timing problems early in the game as the first quarter ended with a 0 – 0 score.

Daingerfield scored first

The Tigers would score first on 46-yard TD run by D RB D’Co Wight capping off a 4 play 85-yard drive with 10:57 in the 2nd Qtr.

Queen City kept it interesting as the score remained close until 1:19 left before half as D RB Wright would get his second rushing TD of the evening from 2 yards out wrapping up a 5 play 48 yard drive to push the score to 14 – 0 Tigers.

The Bulldogs would have a turnover on downs on the next drive and effective clock management by Coach Nelson would allow the Tigers to get the ball one more before halftime. The ‘Dawg defense would hold the Tigers on the next three plays to -1 yards and set up a 4th down and 11. A false start by Daingerfield would help the QC defense, or so it seemed as Daingerfield was now facing a fourth a 16 from the QC 44-yard line. D QB Chase Johnson would throw a perfect pass to D WR Braden Lewis down the Tiger sideline to hit paydirt and the Tigers would be up 21 – 0 with :07 seconds before halftime.

Daingerfield would make halftime adjustments offensively and score two TDs in the 3rd quarter. D RB Quinn Webb would take a screen in the flat for 20 yards and his first TD reception with 5:23 in the 3rd. D WR Lewis would make another sensational sideline grab from 50 yards for his second TD catch with 2:20. A missed extra point kick would see the 3rd quarter score at 34 – 0.

The Tigers scored early in the fourth as D RB Webb would get his second TD reception as he would score on a 34-yard TD pass from D QB Johnson with 11:47 left in the game.

The Bulldogs reached deep and showed some heart as QC QB Clint Wiley would take the next drive 58 yards in 3 plays for their first score of the evening. QB WR Kaden Fincher would take a pass in the flat, make a few nice moves and turned on the speed to get into the end zone from 22 yards out to make the score 41 – 6 with 9:54 remaining.

D WR Jakevian Rodgers would show why he is receiving D1 college offers taking a short pass from the D replacement QB (Name was not on roster) in the flat up the sideline from 50 yards out to end the Tiger scoring at 48 with 9:07 left.

Queen City would start the next drive in Daingerfield’s backyard after a horse collar penalty allowed the ‘Dawgs to set up shop on the Tiger 34 on the ensuing kickoff return. QC freshman RB Jason Joffray would pick up 9 on first down to setup a 24-yard scoring toss from QC QB Wiley to QC freshman WR Deketric Smith to end the game with a 48 – 12 score.

Queen City had 18 players suited up for the game and shout outs to QB Clint Wiley (9 for 17, 131 yards, 2 td and 0 Int) and RB Delvon Frederick (18 rushes for 101 yards) offensively and DE Mason Stringer and LB Clint Wooding defensively would be well deserved as Daingerfield will more than likely contend for the Class 3A Div. II state title.

Queen City will travel to Hughes Springs for next week’s game on the 28th Oct.
