Coronavirus cases continue surge in El Paso, rise by 1,216


EL PASO, Texas (AP) — The surge in coronavirus cases in the Texas border city of El Paso continues with a record 1,216 cases, nearly 20% of the state’s daily count, reported by city-county health officials. Saturday’s reported cases bring to 3,346 in the past three days and more than 5,800 during the past seven days in El Paso, according to city-county health reports. Statewide, the state health department reported an increase of 6,125 reported virus cases Saturday and 81 more deaths due to COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus. Texas has had more than 858,000 reported cases and nearly 17,500 deaths since the pandemic began in March.
