Colorado beats Rangers 4-3

Rangers 2-0 win Mariners

The Rangers endured a last at-bat defeat against the Rockies on Wednesday in Scottsdale, losing by a 4-3 score despite out-hitting Colorado.  Danny Santana had a single and walk.  Matt Duffy and Scott Heineman both went 2-for-3 today, with Heineman adding a double.  Heineman has hit safely in 3 of his 4 spring training games, going 5-for-10 with 2 doubles and no strikeouts.  Tim Federowicz doubled, as he has a team-high 3 extra-base hits in Cactus League play.  Davis Wendzel, appearing in an ‘A’ spring training game for the first time in his career as a minor league addition, doubled in the 7th inning.  Josh Jung also played as a minor league backup for a second straight day.  Eli White had an RBI single in the 7th inning, adding the club’s first stolen base of the spring in that frame as well.

Starter Kolby Allard pitched 2.0 shutout innings, and Edinson Vólquez allowed only a single in a scoreless 3rd inning.  Texas pitching held the Rockies scoreless through 6 innings, but Colorado scored the game’s final 4 runs.  The big blow came from the Rockies’ Bret Boswell, who hit a 2-out, 3-run go-ahead home run on a 3-2 pitch in the 8th inning against Jason Bahr, providing the final margin.

The Rangers play a home game against the Cubs on Thursday, with a 2:05 p.m. CT first pitch.  RHP Tyler Phillips is slated to make his first ‘A’ game appearance this spring against Chicago RHP Colin Rea (0-0, 0.00).  A free audio webcast can be found at texasrangers.com or the MLB At Bat App, with Matt Hicks and Jared Sandler calling the action.  The Cubs television broadcast on the Marquee Network will also air on MLB Network at 8:00 p.m. CT tomorrow night.
