Body Found After Fire at Atlanta Homeless Camp Sparks Multi-Car Pile-Up on I-85

When firefighters arrived Tuesday night to react to a fire at a homeless camp near Interstate 85 in Atlanta, they discovered a body.

DeKalb Police officers responded to a multiple-vehicle accident on I-85 northbound at the Northcrest Road bridge around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

When cops arrived, they reported that the incident was caused by drivers glancing away from a fire that had started beneath the bridge near the homeless camp.

According to DeKalb County Fire Captain Jason Daniels, crews arrived at the scene and discovered a body. However, it is unclear whether the victim perished as a result of the fire. 11Alive is currently attempting to learn additional information.

According to Daniels, the bridge’s structural integrity has been called into question as a result of the fire.

Multiple lanes of I-85 were closed for the investigation. According to police, the multi-car pile-up resulted in no severe casualties. I-85 has since reopened following the accident.
