RIDGEVILLE – A Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office sergeant was murdered in a hit-and-run crash while riding his motorbike near Old Gilliard Road on November 4.

Sgt. Devon Lindsay, 26, of Ridgeville, had worked for the sheriff’s office since 2019, according to a news release. Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell pronounced him dead at 5:12 a.m.

Lindsay was reporting for duty when he was slain, said spokesman Cpl. Carli Carr.

According to Trooper Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a Toyota car struck his motorcycle before speeding away.

Jessica Ann Goodwin, 30, of Harleyville, was arrested and charged with fleeing the scene of a fatal crash, Pye said.
