Balk run leads TCU 3-2 over UTA

FORT WORTH — A balk from the UT-Arlington Mavericks allowed Hunter Wolfe to plate the winning run to give the TCU Horned Frogs a 3-2 win Tuesday at Lupton Field.

The Frogs were down to their final strike with no one on in the ninth inning trailing by a run. Zach Humphreys hit a base hit on a 3-2 pitch to start the rally. Wolfe managed to hit a base hit that advanced Humphreys to third and Wolfe to first. Josh Watson hit a game-tying double that scored Humphreys.

Cal Coughlin earned his first win of the season as he struck out the lone Maverick batter faced in the top of the ninth with two on and two out. Dawson Barr threw a career-high four shutout innings as the starter in the no-decision. Barr allowed five hits while walking three and fanning three.

TCU moves to 18-8 overall. The Horned Frogs head to Norman, Okla., to take on the Oklahoma Sooners Friday night with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch and the game televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
