STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. –

A female jogger was grabbed from behind and attacked during an attempted rape at a park in New York City last week, police said.

The incident happened at Silver Lake Park on Staten Island around 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, according to the NYPD.

A 53-year-old woman was jogging in Silver Lake Park when a person came up to her from behind, grabbed her, and then pulled her to the ground, police said.

The attacker grabbed the woman’s groin area and then fled, according to police.

The victim was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.

The attacker hasn’t been identified. No arrests have been made.

The victim, who is reportedly unharmed aside from minor injuries sustained during the struggle, immediately contacted police after escaping the attacker. Officers quickly arrived at the scene, where they took statements from the victim and began canvassing the area for potential witnesses.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen something suspicious around the time of the incident to come forward. Authorities are also increasing patrols in the park and surrounding areas in the hopes of preventing further attacks and capturing the suspect quickly.
