The Atlanta Rabbits blasted the Elysian Fields Yellow Jackets 51-6 in the football season opener for both teams Friday at Elysian Fields.

The Atlanta Rabbits football team dominated the Yellow Jackets in all 3 phases of the game. One of the biggest highlights was a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown by senior Jalarrion Andrews.

The Rabbits dominated the game from start to finish

Atlanta led 22-6 at halftime and shutout the Yellow Jackets 29-0 in the second half.

“It was a great team effort,” Atlanta Rabbits second year head coach Tyler Morton said. “We definitely made some first game mistakes but that’s to be expected.

Rabbits junior running back Markeylin Batton rushed for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns on 13 carries. He also had 2 receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown. Batton was named the KPYN Radio, Stuart Smith Player of the game.

Rabbits junior quarterback Peyton Harrison was sharp.  Harrison completed 7-of-11 passes for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also totted the pigskin 4 times for 36 yards.

Coach Morton said his Rabbits have the potential to be competitive this season.

“We have to continue to progress and get better at the final details but I’m proud of the kids and the staff,” Coach Morton said. “It was a good night for the Rabbs.”

The Rabbits next game will be Friday September 1st at Rabbits Stadium in Atlanta against the Redwater Dragons. The Rabbits versus Redwater game will be broadcast live on KPYN 900 AM and 103.9 FM in Atlanta.
