The Atlanta Rabbits baseball team lost 1 and tied 2 games in the weather shortened Marshall baseball tournament Thursday and Friday. Saturday’s games were cancelled due to cold temperatures and freezing rain.

In the Rabbits first game Thursday, The Carthage Bulldogs downed the Rabbs 10-2. The Rabbits were led by catcher Ty Graf who was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Rabbits pitchers walked 9 Bulldogs in the 4 innings played after being called after the 1-hour 40 minute time limit.

Atlanta played much better in their second game Thursday. They battled Lindale to an 11-11 tie. The game was called after 4 innings due to the time limit.  Kale Carpenter was 1-for-3 with a 3-RBI triple, Cooper McClure was 1-for-2, Will Woodruff was 1-for-2 with a double, Nick Burden was 2-for-3 with a triple and 3 RBI and Peyton Gaston was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

After the two games on Thursday, Atlanta Rabbits head coach David Hooten said he felt his team dealt with the freezing weather and  did a good job bouncing back after the loss to Carthage.

“We are swinging the bats well,” Coach Hooten said. “But, ultimately errors and walks are hurting us defensively.

Rabbits tied Benton Friday

The Atlanta Rabbits battled the Benton (Louisiana) Tigers to 3-3 tie Friday.Cooper McClure and Peyton Gaston ptiched  walking only one batter in 5 innings. Kale Carpenter was 1-for-3 with a double, Cooper McClure was 2-for-3, Will Woodruff was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI, Nick Burden was 1-for-2, Clay Walden was 1-for-2 and Ty Graf had an RBI sacrifice fly.

“We did a much better job eliminating free passes against Benton,” Coach Hooten said. “You never like ties but we believe this group is getting better and headed in the right direction.

The Rabbits next game is Tuesday March 1st at home vs New Diana. The game will be broadcast live on KPYN 900 AM, and 103.9 FM. It will also be streamed live on the Radio Streaming Now APP.
