EYLAU, Texas — Alex Boston hit five free throws in double overtime and the Atlanta Rabbits outlasted the Hooks Hornets 53-50 in the district playoff seeding game Thursday night at the Rader Dome.
The Rabbs are district champions for the fourth straight season, and had to go through Hooks for a fifth time to gain the victory.
“This was the fifth time we’ve played Hooks this year so there were no secrets out there,” coach Jarrod Boston said. “The kids just competed to the end. We finally got into a decent rhythm in the fourth quarter and played a little better offensively.”
Alex Boston led the way for Atlanta with 16 points. Ken Washington provided 14. Andrew Boston had 10 points. Aidan Boston scored nine. Braylyn Rowe had two points as did Caleb King.
“First time all year Alex has gone scoreless in a half but again we had guys step up and score some,” Coach Boston said. “Ken Washington and Andrew Boston came up big in the first half for us.”
J. Johnson led the way for Hooks with 16. Estell had 16 points as well, including five 3-pointers. Walls had 11 points, and C. Johnson had seven.
“Kudos to Hooks,” Boston said. “They’ve got a good bunch and deserved to win the game. Hate that someone had to lose.“
