TATUM, Texas — The Atlanta Rabbits advanced out of the regional quarterfinals after a 3-1 win over the Big Sandy Harmony Eagles 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
The Superior Realty Players of the Game were Randal Mason, Kelby Smith, Jackson Warren, and Collin Morris, who used to work for KPYN and was a recipient of the KPYN Scholarship. All four of the players of the game were graduates last night at the Atlanta High School commencement.
Morris says that while the four did not get to take part in Project Graduation on Friday night after the graduation, they didn’t sacrifice anymore than anyone else.
“Everyone wants to win, and we sacrificed what we had to,” Morris said.
Smith pitched 7.0 innings and gave up one run.
“It was a good time,” Smith said. “Just tried to go out there and compete literally as hard as I could to be there for my team.”
The A-Jim’s Dirtiest Player of the Game was Cooper McClure, who flashed the leather in the sixth inning with an over-the-shoulder catch to get a big out for the Rabbs. McClure also led off in the sixth inning with a line drive to centerfield and slid into second base.
Coach Dave Hooten is impressed with the way his team overcame a 1-0 series deficit to win Game 2 in the eighth inning, and then follow it up with a 3-1 win in the decisive Game 3.
“They work hard and they find a way to win,” Hooten said. “They were very confident in the situation. I really felt good with Kelby on the mound. He’s got clutch ones for us all year long.”
The Rabbs are slated to play the Grandview Zebras in the next round of the postseason.
