California is facing another round of job losses as more businesses filed Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices with the state’s Employment Development Department in early April.
In Los Angeles County, ImmPact Bio USA Inc., a subsidiary of Lyell Immunopharma Inc., will permanently close its facility in Canoga Park, affecting 73 employees by June 2. Textile company Robert Kaufman Co., Inc. filed notices for two separate addresses on West 132nd Street in Los Angeles, with each site announcing permanent layoffs on May 31.
McDonald’s Restaurant of California, Inc. reported temporary layoffs at two locations: 105 workers in Fresno and 67 in Santa Monica, both effective June 9.
In San Bernardino County, FEAM Aero will permanently lay off some workers at its Ontario location by June 2. In San Francisco County, Sodexo will permanently close its site on Sutter Street, impacting 39 employees, by May 21.
Orange County’s ActivCare Living, LLC will close permanently, laying off 56 employees at its Chapman Avenue location by June 4. In San Diego County, Pfizer filed a notice for a permanent layoff of 56 employees at its Science Center Drive facility by June 2.
Alameda County was especially hard-hit. Federal Express Corporation will permanently close two sites—one in Emeryville (79 workers) and another in Oakland (95 workers)—both effective June 2. Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay, will also close two locations: one in Oakland (72 workers) and another in San Francisco (18 workers), both by June 7.
These notices, filed between April 1 and April 7, represent a significant wave of layoffs and closures across various sectors and regions in California.
