SAN ANTONIO – Garrett Gilbert completed 19-of-28 for 393 passing yards and two touchdowns to lead the Orlando Apollos past the San Antonio Commanders in Week 2 of AAF action at the Alamodome Sunday.
The former Texas Longhorn and SMU Mustang helped the Apollos tie the game 29-29 halfway through the fourth quarter with a 23-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jalin Marshall. While the two-point conversion pass failed, Orlando did take the lead on the next possession on an interception returned for a touchdown. Keith Reaser picked off Commanders quarterback Logan Woodside for a 39-yard pick-six to give the Apollos a 37-29 lead after a successful two-point pass.

“There’s a lot of thing we need to get better at, but I think as a whole we played good,” Reaser said. “That’s a big win, when you could have some adversity and pull out a win.”
The Apollos also overcame a 12-0 deficit to start the game.
Said Reaser: “Real football, when you know things don’t always go right, you’re not blowing a team out, you know, when you find a way to win. I think that’s going to create a lot of momentum for us.”
Woodside completed 20 passes on 39 attempts for 223 yards and a touchdown. Backup quarterback Marquise Williams also saw some action in the second quarter and went 2-of-4 for three yards along with three carries for 32 yards.
Orlando out-gained San Antonio 428 to 398 while the Commanders led in time possession 35:30 to 24:30.
San Antonio will play their first road game on Feb. 24 as they face the San Diego Fleet at 7:00 p.m. Central Time from SDCCU Stadium.
Orlando grabbed a 17-15 lead late in the first half on a 21-yard pass from Gilbert to Johnson in the corner of the end zone, but Rose connected from 38 yards as time expired in the half to give San Antonio the lead once again.
