The Los Angeles Angels snapped a 2-2 tie with 5 runs in the 6th inning and went on to defeat the Texas Rangers, 7-2 on Friday afternoon in Tempe. The Angels opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with two runs off Rangers starter Lance Lynn on an RBI double by Jo Adell and a run-scoring single by Shohei Ohtani. Texas tied the game with unearned runs in the second and third innings before Los Angeles’ five-run sixth inning that was highlighted by a two-run homer by Arismendy Alcantara and a two-run single for Jahmai Jones.
In his first start of the spring, Lynn allowed four hits and two runs in 2.2 innings while throwing 51 pitches. Joe Palumbo took the loss, issuing six hits and five runs in 2.1 innings. Brett Martin worked a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts. The Rangers were held to five singles by six Angels pitchers with Isiah Kiner-Falefa going 2-for-2.
The Rangers, who have lost four of their last five games, will host the Chicago White Sox on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. CT at Surprise Stadium. Jonathan Hernández will start for Texas against Pale Hose hurler Drew Anderson. The game will be carried by 105.3 FM with the Hall of Famer Eric Nadel and Matt Hicks on the call.
