According to investigators, an alcoholic motorist caused a three-car incident that closed portions of Highway 287 early Monday morning near Loop 820 in Fort Worth. Police said two of the drivers will face charges as a result of the incident.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the highway closed around 2:45 a.m. on Monday, November 11, and reopened around 7:15 a.m.
A dark SUV collided with a temporary construction barrier in a construction zone on the Highway 287 southbound ramp, according to a Fort Worth police report. According to authorities, construction workers on the scene stopped to assist the driver involved in the accident when they were hit by an Infiniti.
The two Infiniti occupants were critically injured and had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to authorities. They were rushed to the hospital and are expected to live, according to police.
Another individual who was standing outside the car when it was hit was also injured, but their injuries were minor, according to authorities.
The SUV’s driver was arrested on the scene and charged with DUI, according to a Fort Worth police update. When the driver of the Infiniti is freed from the hospital, he will face intoxication assault charges, according to police.
The event is being investigated, and the freeway will be closed “for some time,” authorities added.
