
Asa Lacy and Chandler Jozwiak combined for 17 strikeouts and the Aggie offense blasted three home runs as No. 18 Texas A&M triumphed over the Kentucky Wildcats, 9-3, Saturday afternoon at Kentucky Proud Park to clinch the weekend series.
Lacy (5-0) earned the win with a stellar effort on the mound. He racked up a career-high 13 strikeouts, including six in a row over the course of the fourth and fifth innings. He allowed one run on three hits and three walks over 6.0 innings. Jozwiak worked 3.0 innings of relief to pick up the save and give the remainder of the bullpen the day off. He yielded two runs, one earned, on two hits while striking out four.
Bryce Blaum reached base in all five of his plate appearances. He batted 4-for-4 with one triple, one hit-by-pitch, three runs and one RBI. Braden Shewmake knocked in four runs, batting 2-for-5 with one home run. For the weekend, Shewmake is 5-for-10 with two home runs and seven RBI. Will Frizzell batted 2-for-4 with one double, one home run, two runs and two RBI. Mikey Hoehner logged his first Aggie home run with his two-run dinger in the fifth inning.
The Aggies ran their win streak to five games, improving to 20-5 overall and 4-1 in the SEC. Kentucky dropped to 14-9 overall and 0-5 in league play.
The Aggies go for the series sweep Sunday at 12:02 p.m. Central.
