Aggies hold off Houston 3-2

HOUSTON — The Texas A&M Aggies edged the Houston Cougars 3-2 Sunday afternoon to win the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park.

Bryce Blaum reached base three times and hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Braden Shewmake went 2-of-5 with a run while Logan Foster was 2-of-4 with an RBI double.

Chandler Jozwiak earned his first win of the season as he allowed one unearned run in 2.2 innings, allowed three hits, and two walks while fanning three Cougar batters. Bryce Miller produced 2.0 innings of work with one run on one hit and a walk while striking out three. Joseph Menefee struck out one batter, the only one he faced. Christian Roa earned his first career save and retired all three batters he faced.

Texas A&M starting pitcher Jonathan Childress left the game after 3.0 hitless innings with an injury. Childress was having a decent game as he struck out three and allowed one walk.

The Aggies winning the tournament is the second time in the last three trips to Houston they have gone 3-0 to post an 11-2 overall record for 2019.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi visit the Aggies Tuesday at 6:32 p.m. at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
