Abilene Christian succumbs to TCU 11-6

ABILENE, Texas – TCU used a big eighth inning to pick up an 11-6 victory at Abilene Christian on Tuesday night at Crutcher Scott Field. Johnny Rizer collected three of TCU’s seven extra-base hits. Josh Watson and Jake Guenther also homered for the Horned Frogs.

TCU opened the scoring in the first on a two-run home run off the bat of Jake Guenther.

Abilene Christian got a run back in the bottom of the inning after a lead-off triple scored on a sacrifice fly to make it a 2-1 ballgame where it would stay until the seventh inning.

The Frogs picked up a pair of runs in the inning to extend its lead to three, 4-1. Adam Oviedo tripled and scored on a base hit from Bobby Goodloe. Josh Watson’s second hit of the night drove in Goodloe.

In the eighth, the Frogs sent 10 men to the plate and scored six times to open up a 10-1 lead. Johnny Rizer tripled home Austin Henry and scored on an Oviedo base hit. Dean Frew and Zach Humphreys executed hit-and-runs to drive in two more runs. Watson’s line his sixth home run over the right field fence for a two-run shot.

Abilene Christian answered the TCU outburst with a five spot in the bottom of the eighth. The first five batters in the inning reached and all scored. Augie Mihlbauer came on and got the final two outs of the frame.

TCU tacked on an unearned run in the ninth. Rizer doubled and scored on a two-out error to account for the final score.

Dawson Barr started for the Frogs and allowed a run on two hits in 2+ innings of work. Haylen Green (3-1) collected the win after throwing three scoreless frames. He allowed just one base runner in his time on the mound. Jake Eissler contributed a pair of scoreless innings.

With the win, TCU improves 24-19 overall. The Horned Frogs will continue their road trip starting Friday night at West Virginia. Game time in Morgantown is set for 5:30 (CT).
