Two persons were killed in a multiple-vehicle crash in Baltimore County on Wednesday afternoon, according to Maryland State Police.
According to police, on October 23, soon after 2 p.m., troopers responded to a complaint of a multiple-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 83 near York Road.
According to preliminary investigations, a pickup truck pulling a trailer was heading southbound on I-83 when it lost control, moved into the northbound lanes, and collided with a mobile crane, engulfing both cars in flames.
Following the original incident, three more automobiles collided.
The drivers of a pickup truck and a mobile crane were pronounced deceased on the site; their identities are pending notification to the next of kin.
Four more patients were brought by ambulance to WellSpan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, for treatment of their injuries.
According to authorities, all lanes on northbound I-83 remain closed throughout the crash investigation.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
