The Columbia Police Department reported that three persons, including a juvenile, were arrested on several charges following a recent shooting. Maalik Corley, 19, Demarco Gleaton, 23, and Ma’ziya Mills, 23, have been accused in connection with an attempted murder and armed robbery investigation on August 17, according to a news release issued Wednesday night.
According to the announcement, Mills asked a man to meet her on Ripplemeyer Avenue in August. Police identified him as the victim. Mills offered the invitation despite knowing Corley and Gleaton were planning to conduct a crime, authorities claimed. Corley and Gleaton approached the victim and broke into his car, stealing goods, according to the release.
The victim fled, but Corley and Gleaton pursued him, held him at gunpoint, and abused him, authorities said. According to the release, Corley shot at the victim as he attempted to defend himself. Police claimed the person was not wounded by gunfire.
No information about the victim’s condition was available.
No other injuries were reported.
Corley was arrested on Tuesday and charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, auto breaking, larceny, and conspiracy, according to jail records. While a $2,125 bond was established for the larceny charge, the release was refused on the remaining counts, and Corley is presently detained in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to jail records.
Gleaton was arrested Wednesday and charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault and violence, auto breaking, larceny, and conspiracy, according to jail records. Gleaton, like Corley, had a $2,125 bond set on the larceny charge but was denied bond on the other counts, and he is still in jail, according to records.
When Columbia police detained Corley and Gleaton, they seized a gun reported stolen from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, according to the release.
Mills was detained on Tuesday and charged with conspiracy, accessory before and after the fact to a felony, according to jail records. Mills’ bond was set at $75,000 for the combined charges, and she is still in jail, according to documents.
Corley, Gleaton, and Mills are all due to appear in court again on December 13, according to Richland County judicial records.
