Bend Police reported a box containing eight very young puppies was discovered behind a garbage can at Hollinshead Park in Bend on Sunday. They are all still alive and being cared for in foster homes.
The find was found around 2:51 p.m. on the park’s east side, according to Communications Manager Sheila Miller’s release.
The individual who phoned the police stated that he heard whimpering from behind the garbage can and found the puppies. Police phoned the Companion Animal Medical Project, a nonprofit organization. CAMP transported the puppies to an emergency veterinary clinic, where they spent the night, were bottle-fed, and placed in incubators before being placed in foster homes.
The puppies are believed to be between one and two weeks old and appear to have been well-cared for and kept clean. Bend Police did not provide information about the puppies’ breed.
Police stated the puppies would be cared for until they were mature enough to be adopted through CAMP’s adoption program, The Peaches Project.

Miller reminds the public that numerous agencies throughout Central Oregon will accept abandoned animals.
This tragedy serves as a reminder to spay and neuter dogs. Street Dog Hero and FixBend are two non-profits that provide low-cost clinics. Both have clinics coming up in November.
