Colbie Young, a University of Georgia football player, was arrested by Athens-Clarke County police early Tuesday morning and charged with assault on an unborn child and violence.
According to authorities, Young paid bond on Tuesday afternoon and was freed from jail.
According to the incident report, Young’s ex-girlfriend called the police overnight and stated she and the wide receiver had a “heated argument” about their prior relationship, during which Young “grabbed her left arm near her bicep and tricep and physically pulled her out of his room.”
The lady alleged Young then “picked her up and began to squeeze her torso and abdomen very hard.” “She felt like Mr [Young] was trying to harm her.”
The incident report notes that the alleged victim exhibited “discoloration on the bottom right side of her chest where it meets the abdomen.” “She also had redness on her right flank.”
Police said Young denied grabbing the woman.
However, the arresting officer determined “probable cause based on the totality of the circumstances along with physical evidence of injury” for the victim.
Young’s attorney, Kim Stephens, released the following statement: “Colbie Young was arrested last night after asking his ex-girlfriend to leave his apartment. He did not make any physical contact with her that may be deemed a criminal offense. I expect Mr. Young to be completely exonerated once our inquiry is completed and the truth is disclosed.”
When approached for a reaction, Steven Drummond of the UGA Athletic Association responded in a statement, “This is a pending legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time.”
