This morning, drivers in central Nebraska are facing reduced visibility and slick roads as a result of intense freezing fog. An intense Fog Advisory is in force until 8 a.m., and it is expected to continue until then. There are areas in the north-central part of Kansas and the central part of Nebraska that are affected by the advisory.
These areas include Hastings, Grand Island, and Kearney. During the time that visibility is reduced to a quarter mile or less, residents should make sure to utilize their headlights, slow down, and keep safe distances between themselves and other vehicles.
Freezing fog can leave behind a thin layer of ice on untreated roads, bridges, and walkways, which can result in hazardous circumstances, as stated by the National Weather Service in Hastings. Today, there will be partly sunny skies and maximum temperatures close to 46 degrees Fahrenheit. The widespread dense fog will begin to clear by late morning. The southeast will continue to blow at a speed of between 5 and 10 miles per hour.
The sky will be clear tonight, and the temperature will drop to a low of 29 degrees Fahrenheit. Monday will offer bright skies and temperatures that are slightly higher than average, with highs reaching 49 degrees Fahrenheit.
During the day, winds will move to the northwest at speeds ranging from 5 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 25 miles per hour. Although the skies will be mostly clear on Monday night, temperatures will drop to approximately 27 degrees Fahrenheit.
The upcoming week will see lower evening low temperatures, which will range from the middle of the teens to the low 20s, while the daytime highs will continue to be in the upper 30s to the low 50s.
A clear but chilly night with temperatures down to 18 degrees Fahrenheit will follow a partly bright day on Tuesday with a high temperature of 48 degrees Fahrenheit. The sky will continue to be sunny through Wednesday, with high temperatures in the upper 30s.
Because fog and cold conditions may continue to exist, residents are strongly recommended to keep an eye on the latest weather updates, particularly in the mornings.
