On Thursday morning, there was a pileup accident that occurred on the Boulevard of the Allies ramp leading to Oakland. Twenty-two automobiles were involved in the accident.
Around 6:20 in the morning, the collision took place. While our workers were driving by, they were able to observe that the ramp leading to Forbes Avenue was closed off by emergency vehicles.
There were five persons who needed to be sent to a hospital with minor injuries, according to officials from the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department.
Multiple vehicles need to be towed.
According to a spokeswoman for public safety, the precise origin of the incident is unknown at this time; however, environmental factors are thought to be involved.
On Thursday morning, it was reported that roads throughout the area were covered with ice.
The Pittsburgh Public Safety Department issued a statement on Facebook stating that drivers should be mindful of traffic delays in the area and should drive with caution because it has been reported that highways are icy and treacherous this morning.
As a result of the large pileup, the morning commute became significantly more hazardous for hundreds of automobiles.
According to the Channel 11 Traffic Tracker, vehicles were moving at a snail’s pace along the Parkway East. In the course of removing vehicles from the roadway and assisting as many individuals as they could, drivers from a number of tow truck businesses fought against the severely cold conditions for a number of hours.
Jake Ianuzzo, who works for Saitta’s Towing, had this to say about the situation: “The officers, the medics, and the fire – we all have to work together and get the roads cleared up so that people can get on their way to work and move on with their day.”
An individual who did not wish to be recognized stated, “It was nothing more than a sheet of ice.” I was attempting to stop when I was rear-ended by someone. Even after applying the brakes, you were unable to come to a complete stop.
It was confirmed to Channel 11 by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) that they are responsible for the maintenance of snow and ice on this segment of the road. A truck reportedly dumped material on the ramp at 3:39 in the morning, according to a spokeswoman.
