One Passenger Killed in Fatal Flip-over Car Accident While Attempting to Pass Another Vehicle in Independence

A person was killed in an automobile accident that occurred on Thursday in Independence. The tragedy occurred when the car they were in flipped over while they were attempting to pass another vehicle.

According to the spokesperson for the Independence Police Department, Sergeant Jeff Buckley, the deadly collision occurred on Little Blue Parkway just south of E Truman Road at approximately 12:55 p.m.

The driver of a 2005 GMC Envoy was allegedly attempting to pass another vehicle while traveling southward when he lost control of the vehicle, according to Buckley.”

Buckley claims that the Envoy began to roll onto its back, causing two riders to be ejected and colliding with another vehicle. The inverted Envoy was responsible for the death of one of its passengers. Unknown to the general public is the identity of that individual.

The driver of the second vehicle, who was the only person in the vehicle at the time, did not sustain any injuries.

According to Buckley, the Department of Police in Independence is still investigating the collision.

Since the beginning of 2024, the Missouri State Highway Patrol has compiled data that indicates that there have been 61 fatal traffic accidents that have included automobiles that have flipped over.

This year, around eight percent of all fatal accidents that have occurred in the state have featured a car that has flipped over.
