19-year-old Driver Killed, Two Minors Critically Injured in Lake County Semi Crash

In Lake County, Indiana, a deadly incident between a semi and a passenger vehicle killed a 19-year-old driver and left two minors with life-threatening injuries. According to ABC 7 Chicago, the accident happened around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, near West 181st Avenue and Harrison Street.

Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. stated that as the passenger vehicle attempted to turn west, it collided with an eastbound semi. The young driver, aged 19, was pronounced dead at the spot. A 14 and 15-year-old were taken to hospitals in Chicago after suffering life-threatening injuries in the back of the vehicle; their situations were unknown at the time. The semi’s 67-year-old driver escaped uninjured from the incident.

Multiple sources are reporting on the horrific event, including Hoodline News, which confirmed the 19-year-old’s death and the two youngsters’ critical condition.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating this tragic tragedy. “Although there are no words that can ease the pain of those affected by this tragedy, my heart truly goes out to the families and other loved ones of those involved,” said Sheriff Martinez, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

According to WGN-TV, the sheriff’s office initially stated that the passenger vehicle was making a left turn onto West 181st Avenue when the eastbound semi struck them.
