A community paid its final goodbyes to three Palm Beach County Sheriff’s motorcycle deputies who were killed in the line of duty on Tuesday morning.
Corporal Luis Paez, Deputy Ralpha “Butch” Waller, and Deputy Ignacio “Dan” Diaz were killed last month after an SUV collided with them on the side of the road a week before Thanksgiving.
On Tuesday, a parade and memorial ceremony were held at the iTHINK Financial Amphitheater, which is located on the same road as the terrible incident.
The procession left Palms West Funeral Home at around 9:30 a.m. The parade was solely open to the families of the slain deputies and PBSO staff. The Amphitheater service was available to the general public.
President-elect Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis were in attendance. All three motormen were part of Trump’s escort team.
On the morning of November 21, the motormen were looking for speeders near Lion Country Safari. Around 9:15 a.m., a Pennsylvania driver in an SUV drove off the road and hit all three individuals.
Paez and Waller died in the hospital within an hour of the accident. Diaz perished four days later.
Dashcam footage recorded the men tinkering on a motorcycle that wouldn’t start on the shoulder of Southern Boulevard near Loxahatchee, shortly before the fatal incident.
So far, no charges have been brought against the driver who hit them.
