It will soon be plausible to replace the speakers on newer MacBook Pro models without replacing the complete top cover, as has previously been the case.
According to a memo obtained by Macrumors, Apple Stores, and Authorized Service Providers were informed this week that speakers will be offered as independent components for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 family of CPUs.
According to a source, this will also be a possibility for repairs on previous MacBook Pro models that use Apple silicon.
The adjustment should result in a less expensive fix. Previously, the technique required changing the entire top casing, including the battery and other components, which was quite expensive.
It has been that way since 2016. The repair manual, which includes the updated steps for speaker replacement, is now accessible from Apple Support.
It may not be an easier repair — the article depicts a somewhat lengthy procedure — but not having to replace other elements such as the battery merely to replace the speakers should considerably save costs.
