Behind our powerful low-pressure system, which is delivering heavy snows to sections of New York and Pennsylvania, we have very cold air descending all the way to the Gulf Coast and southeast.
Cold Canadian air is sweeping down through the Plains and Ohio River Valley, causing unseasonably cold weather in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and the Carolinas. Overnight, clear sky and lighter breezes will assist feed the radiational cooling process, resulting in a relatively cold night.
Temperatures in the interior of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana are forecast to plummet below freezing. Temperatures near the coast, particularly Florida’s panhandle and southwest Georgia, are predicted to be in the low to upper 30s.
As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the interior of Alabama and Mississippi. Frost advisories are posted throughout Florida’s panhandle and southwest Georgia. We also have freeze watches along the periphery of the freeze warning, which covers a portion of Louisiana.
Take the necessary safeguards to protect your late-season crops, plants, and livestock as conditions warrant.
