Heavy snow continues to fall in sections of New York, Pennsylvania, and extreme northwest New Jersey as our low-pressure system tightens and draws cold air from Canada. This marks the commencement of an active, chilly, and possibly snowy trend that is beginning to form.
Once our system departs today, we won’t be far from the next one, as we prepare for Thanksgiving and the holiday weekend.
That will be courtesy of our next West Coast storm system, which is expected to hit regions of California, Oregon, and Washington on Monday or Tuesday. It’ll be traveling rapidly and will arrive on our doorstep by Thursday or Friday.
We are currently not looking at any major low-pressure systems. However, cold air trapped in the Northeast could result in an overrunning configuration, with a big boost of snow ahead of the system and rain transitioning back to snow as it passes.
So far, it appears that some of the places hit today will be impacted later next week. This means that the New York and Pennsylvania Catskill regions may receive additional snow on top of the 6-18″ (depending on elevation) that we are currently experiencing.
Today is another terrible, harsh, and frigid day. Clouds, sporadic showers, and temperatures in the low 40s provide a classic early winter feel.
Sunshine returns tomorrow, although it will be brisk and near 50 degrees. However, winds will make it feel considerably cooler. The wind calms down on Sunday, allowing for a pleasant day with highs in the low 50s.
The workweek begins next week with sunshine and temperatures in the low to mid-50s, possibly reaching the upper 50s by Tuesday. However, we will begin to drop back into the upper 40s by Wednesday, with another likely showery and harsh day on Thursday in the mid to upper 40s.
