Freeze Warning Issued for Virginia as Unseasonably Cold Night Hits Mid-atlantic

With our front gone and well offshore, cool high pressure is settling in, resulting in an unseasonably cold night tonight throughout areas of the Mid-Atlantic.

Clear sky and light breezes will aid in radiational cooling, with temperatures predicted to fall below freezing in parts of Virginia and North Carolina.

As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for sections of central and south-central Virginia beginning tonight.

Frost advisories spread into North Carolina and pose a risk to late-season crops and plants. Increasing clouds tomorrow night will create an “atmospheric blanket,” preventing temperatures from dipping below freezing for the second night in a row.

The next potential for frost or freeze conditions will be Saturday night, with a similar setting after our next system goes through and high-pressure sets in.
