Two people were slain, and the suspect in the shooting was killed in a shootout with police following a multi-county chase across Central Pennsylvania on Friday morning.
At 4:15 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) responded to the 300 block of Sassafras Terrace in Mount Joy Borough after receiving a complaint of shots fired.
When officials arrived, they discovered that many people had been shot and injured inside an apartment, one of whom died as a result of their injuries.
According to PSP, a suspect, Ricky Shannon, 22, of Altoona, was recognized as fleeing the scene, prompting a search for the red Ford pickup truck he was thought to be driving.
Within minutes, officers discovered the truck and attempted to start a stop at 4:22 a.m.
The pursuit of the truck began, and police claimed they knew Shannon was armed.
Authorities claim the chase continued at high speeds into Dauphin County for about 40 minutes before police were able to perform a PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver on the vehicle on Route 147 at about 5:00 a.m.
According to PSP, Shannon opened fire on State Troopers once the truck came to a stop.
They returned fire and approached the truck, hoping to help Shannon. During that time, police discovered that another individual, a 19-year-old girl, was also inside the truck.
According to police, the teen was not visible to State Troopers due to the darkness, window tinting, and airbag deployment caused by the crash.
Shannon and the teen girl died as a result of gunshot wounds.
According to PSP, Shannon and the teen have recently filed Protection From Abuse orders against each other.
Route 147 in Reed Township remains closed while police investigate.
