A man on an illegal dirt bike was apprehended after striking a Philadelphia Highway Patrol officer and attempting to run in Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday night, police said.
The crash occurred at 9:30 p.m. near Leon and Stanwood streets.
According to police, the highway patrol officer was headed west on Stanwood and Leon streets when the 22-year-old suspect operating the dirt bike sped past a stop sign and collided with him.
The 22-year-old attempted to flee, but police say a neighbor assisted the officer in apprehending the culprit.
Both the officer and the suspect were hospitalized in stable condition.
