A 55-year-old Miami man has been charged in the 2016 disappearance of his 8-year-old daughter and mother.
Liliana Moreno and her 8-year-old daughter Daniela Moreno were last seen in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in May 2016, according to a press release from federal prosecutors in the Southern District.
More than eight years later, officials have apprehended a suspect, 55-year-old Gustavo Alfonso Castano Restrepo, according to prosecutors.
According to an indictment obtained by PEOPLE, Castano Restrepo is accused of a kidnapping that resulted in death. It is not apparent whether he has entered a plea. His listed attorney declined to comment.
Both CBS Miami and Local 10 indicate that Daniela’s father is Castano Restrepo.
Though the indictment does not go into great detail, prosecutors claim Castano Restrepo abducted Liliana and committed the alleged crime using a cell phone, the internet, and a motor vehicle.
Prosecutors claim that the kidnapping resulted in the deaths of both Liliana and Daniela. A detention hearing is now set for Friday, November 1.
Castano Restrepo was the last person to see the mother and daughter, telling police that he let them off near the Florida Turnpike, according to CBS, Local 10, and WSVN.
According to reports, Castano Restrepo stabbed himself days later and lost his right eye after being tased during a struggle with police.
